In order to understand the relationships between people, organisations or requirements, the creation of a coherent architecure is critical. Complex socia-technical organisations need to comprehend these relationships in order to drive change and manage complexity.

The visibility to stakeholders of a coherent architecture at either enterpise level in support of process, method and tool develpment or as part of a change programme is key to success. Engineering architectures are critical so that all stakeholders have the same vision and the agreement processes between acquires and suppliers are greatly simplified when one agreed architecture is used to define, describe and specify the system.
